Courses generally start in September/October, but you can still start in any month of the year except in the month of August. Generally during the summer period (June and July) classes are held outdoors, in parks and / or villas.
AT WHAT AGE?
For the "Children" course the minimum age is 3 years; for the "Teenager" course the minimum age is 11 years and for the "Adults" course the minimum age is 16 years.
Before starting the course, seek medical advice.
Very important is to inform, before class, your teacher about your problems and physical conditions such as pregnancy or injuries and above all know, in relation to these and to your age, your limits.
A TYPICAL CAPOEIRA CLASS
Since Capoeira promotes the use of "forgotten" muscles or almost inactive in the normal daily routine, the lesson will begin with a warm-up for the prevention or reduction of the risks of muscle injury. The exercises will be both stretching, running, abs, push-ups, etc. ... and exercises drawn from basic Capoeira movements .
A beginners lesson is based on learning individual Capoeira movements such as techniques used for defense, shifting in space, attack, imbalance of the opponent and acrobatic movements.
During the class each student will work both on single Capoeira movements/techniques and sequences, on your own or with a partner.
In addition to the physical part, the course includes a theoretical part that consists of: Origin and History of Capoeira, Fundamentals of Capoeira, Music and Singing.
The end of the lesson is usually dedicated to the essence of Capoeira: the jogo (playing) in a Roda (Circle) in other words the real practice of Capoeira in which two person at a time will enter the circle and improvise, using all the techniques known, playing with their partner and following the music and singing.
WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR ON MY FIRST CLASS?
Sweatpants and a t-shirt.
Our school practice Capoeira barefoot, this is both to respect and follow our tradition and to avoid ankle and knee injury.
On specific request to your teacher, you can temporarly use sapatilhas (capoeira shoes) or taekwondo shoes.
Later on you will need to wear the school's uniform: Abadá (sweatpants) with the school's logo and a white t-shirt with the school's logo.
WHEN WILL I NEED TO WEAR THE UNIFORM OF THE SCHOOL?
By the third month of training you will need to wear the school's uniform: Abadá (sweatpants) with the school's logo and a white t-shirt with the school's logo.
The uniform must be worn in all classes, Rodas, Workshops, Events and Batizados.
TO SWITCH FROM A GRADUATION TO ANOTHER DO I NEED TO TAKE A TEST?
Yes, for every graduation there is a minimum time of training after which you will have the right to take the test for the next graduation.
The test will be both practical and theoretical.
HOW MANY MONTHS OF TRAINING DO I NEED TO GET MY FIRST GRADUATION?
In order to be considered for the first graduation, you must have at least 6 months of practice.
The first graduation (corda crua) is given to the student during the ceremony of the Batizado that, for our school, happens each year at the end of May.
EVEN IF I HAVE LESS THAN SIX MONTHS OF TRAINING CAN I PARTICIPATE TO THE BATIZADO?
During the event organized on the occasion of the Batizado and Troca de Corda of the school the student with less than six months of Capoeira can, of course, participate in all the activities (classes, lectures, Rodas, etc ...).
However, as explained previously, he/she will not receive his/her first graduation on that occasion.
IN CAPOEIRA WORKSHOPS CAN I PARTICIPATE EVEN IF I TRAINED FOR LESS THAN THREE MONTHS?
Yes, because generally in any Capoeira Event (Workshop, Batizados, etc ...) lessons are divided in levels.
I COME FROM ANOTHER SCHOOL / GROUP OF CAPOEIRA: DO I HAVE TO DO A TEST TO DETERMINE MY LEVEL IN YOUR SCHOOL?
Yes, in order to establish your level of knowledge of history, rituals and traditions of Capoeira and to understand and learn the basics and technique of our school the student from another school / group will be added for a period of three months in the beginners course and for another three months in the pre-intermediate course.
In the case of a student already at advanced level, he/she will be placed for a period of three months in the pre-intermediate course and for another three months in the intermediate course.
